Becoming a Volunteer

What are the benefits of volunteering?

Even helping out with the smallest tasks can make a real difference in the lives of others. As a volunteer, you can make a difference and improve the quality of life for older residents who would like to remain independent. There is satisfaction in helping others and giving back to your community. You will get to know more of your neighbors – including members who request services and fellow volunteers. Studies show that volunteering improves mental and physical health and boosts self-confidence. With busy lives it can be hard to find the time to volunteer, but Brisbane Village Helping Hands makes it easy to help others right in your own backyard, according to your own schedule.

How can I become a volunteer?

To be eligible for volunteering, you must be at least 18 years old (at least 21 years old for drivers) and a Brisbane resident. For more detailed information about volunteering please read BVHH-Information-for-Volunteers.

To submit your application to become a Volunteer, please read the BVHH-Volunteer-Introduction-Letter. Then complete the following forms and return them by email to [email protected] or by U.S. mail to P.O. Box 734, Brisbane, CA 94005:

If you would prefer to receive a volunteer application packet by mail, please leave your name, phone number and mailing address on our voicemail, 415 508-2185 and the paperwork will be sent to you.

Please note that all volunteers must undergo a background check. To keep within our limited budget, we are requesting that prospective volunteers cover the one-time tax-deductible expense of the cost of his or her background check. (We anticipate that the cost will be under $45 for both criminal and DMV background checks and under $40 for criminal background checks only.) However, in cases of hardship, the prospective Volunteer may request reimbursement for the cost from Brisbane Village Helping Hands.  The Village may need to update background checks from time to time to stay current and will notify volunteers if this becomes necessary.
